Hola Memphis Directorio de Supervivencia Continues to Serve as Essential Resource for Newcomers
Memphis, TN – May 22, 2024. Since its inception in 2019, the Directorio de Supervivencia (Directory of Survival) has been an indispensable asset for newcomers to the Memphis community. Originally conceived to introduce and connect the burgeoning Latino(a/x/e) and/or Hispanic community with vital resources, the directory has evolved with each edition to address the diverse needs of Memphis residents.
The inaugural edition of the directory provided a comprehensive overview of available resources to students, families, and organizations seeking to engage with the Spanish-speaking population in Memphis. Following its success, the second edition was launched amidst the challenges of the pandemic, with a focus on healthcare-related opportunities and information crucial for community well-being.
Now, in its third iteration, Hola Memphis Directorio de Supervivencia returns with a renewed focus on educational resources. Sponsored by SchoolSeed Foundation, this edition aims to empower newcomers with the tools and information necessary to thrive in Memphis’ educational landscape.
“In every edition, the Hola Memphis Directorio de Supervivencia has been a beacon of support for our community’s newcomers, offering vital connections and resources. SchoolSeed is proud to sponsor this essential initiative, which now, in its third iteration, underscores our commitment to empowering every individual with the educational tools needed for success in Memphis.” – Vincent J. McCaskill, President and CEO of SchoolSeed Foundation.
The Directorio de Supervivencia was born out of a collaborative effort between Nancy Aguila and Maria Calvo, directors of El Informante de Memphis, and long-time educator Talia J. Palacio. Their shared vision was to create a resource that would not only serve new Memphians but also immigrants throughout the Southern region.
“Through the Hola Directory, we have aimed to connect the immigrant community with essential resources and services, available to all, regardless of their immigration status in the country. It’s also to help newcomers adapt more easily and quickly feel at home. Hola Memphis has been created with the conviction that knowledge and connection make us a safer and stronger community,” stated Nancy Águila, editor of El Informante de Memphis.
The latest edition of Hola Memphis Directorio de Supervivencia builds upon the foundation laid by its predecessors, offering an expanded array of resources and information tailored to the needs of newcomers. From educational opportunities to community services, the directory serves as a beacon of support for those embarking on their journey in Memphis.
